Another inspiring group of changemakers lined up to pitch at JXN Gumbo this Thursday, May 24th at Cathead Distillery. For those still unfamiliar with GUMBO, it’s a monthly crowdfunding dinner where 4 folks pitch their ideas, the audience votes, and proceeds go towards the project with the most votes. In March we exceeded our expectations and raised a lot of money and awareness for some exciting initiatives happening in Jackson (Environmentality, SOUL, Innovate Mississippi, #MagnoliaCoins, Esculent, JXN Dreaming Art Collective).

Here’s what we’re stewing for round two:
-Melvin of 242 Creative is hoping to use Gumbo funds to kickstart a podcast project featuring neighborhood histories in Jackson.
-Devon & Javier, who are doing incredible work expanding access to computer science, will pitch their summer coding camp, Jackson Kids Code.
-Beth Thrasher is seeking support to fund the #5 ranked Wingfield CHESS Club travel to tournaments and professional training.
-Leah Wittenberg of Growing Up Knowing will tell us about their “My Body, My Boundaries” free after-school preventive program that gives children and their parents the skills to say no to abuse and bullying.

Gumbo doesn’t require much but it takes a little from a lot of people and all of that put together can do a lot of good for one project. Come see how $5 can change expectations, grow relationships, expand networks, and unite people under the common purpose of JACKSON. Get your ticket today 🎟:…
